Classic Face-to-Face

Illustration: Classic Face-to-Face

One partner lies on their back while the other faces them from above, supported on hands, elbows, or knees. Often called the missionary position, it is popular for good reason: it is simple, intimate, and easy to adjust.

How it feels

Close and familiar. Being face to face makes it easy to kiss, talk, and read each other's reactions.

Comfort tips

  • The partner on top can rest on forearms instead of hands to ease wrist and shoulder strain.
  • A pillow under the lower back or hips of the partner below can make it more comfortable.
  • Small changes in leg position change the feel a lot; experiment slowly together.

Talk about it

Because you can see each other, a smile or nod is an easy way to check in.

Take care

  • If the partner below feels pressure on the chest, shift weight onto knees and elbows.
  • Avoid locking elbows for long periods.

Always go at a pace that feels good for both of you, and stop if anything hurts. This guide is educational and not a substitute for medical advice.
